Aliens reply to Carl Sagan’s Golden Record with a drop of cryptic digital collectibles

Antinomy Labs was approached an anonymous entity to create a multifaceted and ambitious generative art project.

404 was presented as an advanced civilisation’s response to The Voyager Golden Record.

A vision of a self-learning artificial intelligence built by an extraterrestrial race. Its mission was to introduce itself by showing glimpses of life on Earth, as well as their own environment, biology, and hidden knowledge.

This narrative became the foundation for a richly detailed 3D world. We imagined an alien planet shaped by extreme conditions, brought to life through 4,444 unique generative NFTs. Each piece presents moody, atmospheric visuals that echo a cautionary tale about technology and intelligence.

To take the experience further, we developed a fully explorable world inside the metaverse platform Mona, where visitors can uncover hidden artifacts, piece together fragments of lore, and journey deeper into the mystery of 404.
